    SUMMER FUN THEATER SERIES

    Convenor: Jenny O'Brien

    Date: Thursday June 27

    Cost: $54

Lunch: 11:45 am Jack’s Family Restaurant 20 Benjamin Rd.E. Waterloo

Showtime: 2 pm  St. Jacobs Country Playhouse 40 Benjamin Rd.E. Waterloo

Join us for a summer of fun theater excursions, at the first of three offerings, Doris & Ivy in the Home. For this first outing we'll be headed to St. Jacobs Country Playhouse where the theme of the play may hit close to home, but in a funny way.

Life – or at least a second chance at it – begins at age 70+, as Norm Foster tackles with his typical wit and wisdom in this comedy about love and friendship among those in their twilight years.

Retired prison guard Doris Mooney has just moved in to Paradise Village, a retirement home in Canmore, Alberta. She quickly befriends Ivy Hoffbauer, a former champion skier who’s taken aback by Doris’ cheerful brashness. Rounding out the trio is dapper Arthur Beech, who has designs on Ivy.  What follows is a riotous tale that will shatter your preconceived notions of what “senior living” ought to be.

A mirthful and thoughtful companion piece to the widely acclaimed Jonas and Barry in the Home, this refreshing comedy is a testament to living each day to the fullest – regardless of your age or stage in life.

We'll first meet for lunch at the popular "Jack's Family Restaurant" where the servings are huge and the prices reasonable. Then we'll saunter across the parking lot  to the theatre and enjoy an afternoon of hilarity and fun. Make sure to indicate your interest in lunch so we can book accordingly.

Tickets are in high demand and short supply so sign up quickly on Wild Apricot to be part of the fun! Registration begins on March 21.

Lunch: 11:45 am  Foundry Tavern 64 Grand Avenue S. Cambridge

Showtime: 2 pm  Hamilton Family Theatre 46 Grand Avenue S. Cambridge

It's summertime and the living is easy. So why not take an easy drive over to Cambridge and join us at our second of three summer fun theater excursions where we'll see Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Musical.

Get ready for the ride of your life with Australia’s glittering musical masterpiece! With a spectacular array of outrageous costumes, flamboyant choreography, and a hit parade of dance floor favourites, this wildly fresh and funny musical is a journey to the heart of FABULOUS!

Based on the Academy Award® winning film, this sparkling stage adaptation follows three dazzling drag queens – Mitzi, Felicia, and Bernadette – as they set out on a hilarious adventure across the Australian outback in a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla) to put on a show in a remote resort town. Along the way, a heartwarming story of acceptance and self-discovery unfolds.

Shake your groove thing to classic disco hits including “It’s Raining Men,” “I Will Survive,” “Hot Stuff,” “I Say A Little Prayer,” “Finally,” and many more! If you rocked out to Kinky Boots or Rock of Ages, you won’t want to miss this bold blockbuster musical hailed as ‘The best feel-good show since Mamma Mia!’!

Plan on joining us for lunch first, at the Foundry Tavern, where you might want to try one of their beers on tap with your Cobb Salad or Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. Please indicate your interest in joining us for lunch so we can book accordingly.

Registration on Wild Apricot starts April 18.

It promises to be a lovely afternoon with good food, great entertainment and the best of friends. Hope to see you there!

Join Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy at the Springfield High School class of 1958 Super Senior Prom, as these four best friends navigate relationships, growing up, and following their dreams.  As we learn about their lives and loves, the girls serenade with classic ’50s hits: “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” and more. Flash forward a decade later, and the Wonderettes are brought together for their 10-year reunion, while tackling a new decade of hits – “Heat Wave,” “Leader of the Pack,” “Rescue Me,” “RESPECT,” and more. With over 30 tunes spanning 20 years, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling throughout this fun and frothy nostalgic musical trip down memory lane.
